Host Garry, a musician himself who moved to Nelson in February, also plans to host studio guests, feature local venues and a gig guide. ''There is so much talent in the Tasman region and we are very excited to have a chance to feature the sounds of local musicians,'' he said. Lucky prize A Nelson man is $50,000 richer after winning this month's Bonus Bonds draw. He said he had regularly won small prizes of between $20 and $40 but held out for a big win. He plans to leave some in Bonus Bonds and spend the rest on a family trip away, servicing his mortgage and saving for his children's education. Beer fun Tahunanui pub Bel-Aire Tavern is holding its September Meet the Brewer night on Monday September 30 from 7pm and will be hosted by Matt & Callum Duncan, Brewers at Nelson's Founders Brewery. Matt & Callum will be introducing the next generation of beers from this legendary family of craft brewers. Basket cases Nelson City Council is looking for helpers to plant its hanging baskets. It is running planting sessions at the Nelmac Nursery on Atawhai Drive on October 14 to 18. Fifteen people are needed per session. Volunteers will work in 90-minute shifts. The baskets are hung to coincide with the annual Santa Parade the first week of December and stay in place until Easter. To volunteer as a basket planter call 546 0200. Suzanne sings Country singer Suzanne Prentice will be in Nelson for two functions on October 11 and 12. Suzanne will be part of the annual dinner auction to assist the local branch of the Nelson IHC on Friday October 11 at the Nelson Suburban Club. She will also perform at the Suburban Club for her Nelson fans on Saturday October 12. Seaswim Placemakers is holdings its annual seaswim to raise money for prostate cancer: 600m for 600 men. Last year 80 swimmers took the plunge and over $2000 was raised. The swim will be held on Sunday September 29 and starts at 10.30am at Nelson Yacht Club, with a 10am sign-in.
