Nelson Leader : August 22nd 2013
27 THE NELSON LEADER, AUGUST 22, 2013 WHAT'S ON 5488596AA Crowe Horwath accounting and business advisory keeps local focus CROWE HORWATH (NZ) LIMITED ADVERTORIAL Local accounting and advisory firm Crowe Horwath has been celebrating its new name and brand. On the 31st July, WHK became Crowe Horwath, joining more than 100 other offices across New Zealand and Australia in moving to one name. It's not a change of ownership, but a sensible consolidation of two brands into one. "WHK across New Zealand has been a member of the Crowe Horwath group for nearly six years and we're now simply taking the next step and streamlining that name around the country," explains Nelson Managing Principal Darren Mark. "For our team and our clients it's business as usual but with a renewed energy to go along with our fresh new brand. Today, Crowe Horwath Nelson employs over 70 staff in its Nelson and Richmond offices, and proudly traces its roots back over 80 years. Darren Mark says while the company is one of the highest-profile accountancy firms in the region, the core of the business is devoted to small to medium-sized enterprises. "We look after mum and dad owner-operators; they are 80% of our work," says Darren, who grew up in Nelson. "Our audit team work for some of the larger companies in town, but day-to-day we're looking after the affairs of our local clients either for their accounts or for advice on how to improve their business." He says Crowe Horwath values relationships clients can count on." We're the largest employer of accountants and advisors in regional New Zealand and at a time when some businesses are exiting country areas, we're reversing the trend. We're investing in regional areas and retaining locally trained professionals for the benefit of clients." Well known for its local support, the firm is involved with a wide range of community organisations and initiatives, including principal sponsor of the annual Nelson Cancer Society Charity Ball, a community sponsor of The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter Trust, cornerstone sponsor of the Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce and a supporter of many local charities and sporting organisations. "We put a lot back into the community. We believe it's important to support initiatives that keep our community strong and prosperous." From a client perspective Crowe Horwath is still proudly local, with the guiding philosophy that the personal touch and pragmatic solutions are what matter. "Crowe Horwath stands for practical business advice, a long-lasting relationship you can rely on and a willingness to see our clients from a different angle." Darren says while they may be part of the Crowe Horwath group, the local history of the firm will always be important. "We feel a strong sense of ownership in the sense that we're custodians of the business through continuing our values of integrity and working hard to ensure the success of our clients." "We look after mum and dad owner- operators; that's 80% of our work," -- Darren Mark, Managing Principal Crowe Howarth staff prepare to celebrate at their Nelson office.
