Rugby referee on her way to Russian fields All in the family: Nelson rugby referee Paul Gurr and his referee daughter Chelsea Gurr. Nelson-raised Chelsea Gurr has been invited to referee at the Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament to be held in Moscow in June. Chelsea started refereeing rugby in Nelson whilst a year 12 student at Nelson College for Girls. She continued to develop her career while study- ing in North Harbour, and is currently working in Christ- church, where she is a member of the Canterbury Rugby Referees Association. Her family still lives in Nelson where her father, Paul, is regularly seen officiating senior games. Each season Chelsea returns to blow the whistle on at least one local fixture. Chelsea has just returned from Hong Kong and Guang- zhou where she refereed the third-fourth playoff game in the same tournament the New Zealand Womens 7s team won. Following Moscow, her next assignments are in London and Amsterdam.
