Photo: PHIL BARNES Heading for success By PHIL BARNES Awearable art hat compe- tition is one of the high- lights of the Tahunanui School Gala on Sunday. Competition organiser Mary Seelen said it was a chance for children from anywhere -- not just Tahunanui School -- to make a wearable art hat. Entries could be in three dif- ferent categories, she said. These are: Using recyclable materials such as plastic bottles and news- papers. Using materials from nature or the environment such as leaves, shells and driftwood. An open section where any- thing goes''. There would be heaps of fan- tastic prizes, she said. So let your imagination run wild and see what you can make.'' Children wishing to take part should bring their completed hat to the gala for display before judging at 1pm. Other attractions at the gala include an art and leisure silent auction, dunking chair, plate smashing, jeep rides, a ferris wheel, merry go round, coconut shy, Noddy train, whacky hair, waterslide, bouncy castle, face painting, tombola and a wide range of stalls. Principal Paul Drummond said the annual gala was one of the highlights of the school cal- endar. It's an important school com- munity event in which there's as much importance placed on the kids, staff and parents working together as there is on it being a fundraiser.'' This year's funds will help upgrade of the school's sports equipment and its storage shed. The gala runs from 11am to 2pm.
