The charity fight night at the Trafalgar Centre will raise funds for new premises for the Victory Boxing Gym at the YMCA. Aldo's opponent is being kept under wraps until the night. What isn't being kept secret, however, is the mayor's desire to lose weight through his training regime. Aldo is keen to get back down to the 85kg he weighed when he won the may- oralty in 2010. This week The Leader laun- ches In the Mayor's Corner -- a weekly look at Aldo's efforts to get into shape for the big night. I didn't do as much training as I wanted to over the weekend. Things got a bit busy with the Falcons game and the Weet-Bix Tryathlon but I'm back into it today with our first training session at the YMCA. Aerobically the training is incredibly challenging but lots of fun. I've never been pushed as hard before. The only knocks I've taken so far have been one tomyeyeandonetomynosebutit was my own fist! Unfortunately I put a kilo on over the weekend. I'm back to 93 kilos. Climate change to be in spotlight A public meeting on climate change is being held at the Victory Community Centre on Thursday, March 21 featuring a presentation by researcher Dr Murray McClintock. Organised by local environmen- talists, the meeting will focus on the speed at which climate change is happening and whether the world is doing enough to slow it down. A director of Carbon Farm Lim- ited, Murray has a farming back- ground plus more than a decade of research experience in climate change and environmental sci- ence. A Fulbright scholar, his PhD looked at volcanic impacts on cli- mate and he has worked world- wide as a consultant geologist. The meeting will also include a speech by Green Party MP Dr Kennedy Graham and a represen- tative from Nelson City Council. Entry is free and the meeting starts at 7.30pm.
