ANelson student has been named one of seven New Zea- landers with the most specs appeal in a nationwide modelling competition led by Specsavers. Holly Parkes, 22, was selected as a finalist in the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition by judges Christina Hendricks, an actress from award-winning tele- vision series Mad Men, and fellow specs-wearer Kate Hawkesby, after hundreds of bespectacled Kiwis uploaded their images on Spec- savers Facebook page. I am thrilled to be named a final- ist in this modelling competition, Holly said. What a surprise and what an honour. With a prize that includes a trip to California, a photo shoot with Christina Hendricks and a chance to be a model . . . who wouldn t want to win? The annual competition aims to find the country s most stylish specs wearer and give them a once-in-a- lifetime opportunity to help fast- track their way to a successful mod- elling career. As a finalist, Holly has won two pairs of stylish glasses from Specsavers, $500 cash and $500 to be donated to a charity of choice. Holly is pleased to be donating her charity part of the prize to the Child Cancer Foundation. Most families have been affected by cancer in some way and I really believe that the Child Cancer Foun- dation does a fantastic job in making life a little bit easier for those going through a rough time. It is awesome to be able to donate a part of my prize to such a great charity. The winner, who will be announ- ced at the end of the month, will receive a whirlwind trip to Los Angeles with a friend to meet Christina, and have a photo shoot and a one-year modelling contract with 62 Models & Talent. Run by Sara Tetro, 62 Models & Talent has launched many fashion careers in New Zealand and is one of the country s most prominent model- ling and talent agencies.
