20 THE NELSON LEADER, FEBRUARY 14, 2013 Nelson Region Hospice Trust is pleased to welcome on board two new nursing staff, both of whom started at the end of January. Moving from Golden Bay where she was district nurse for eight years, Diane Johnstone has some 15 years total nursing experience. At Hospice she has taken on the role of registered nurse. Diane provides education, symptom management and all general registered nurse duties for patients and their families. She says she finds working at Hospice "very satisfying because you're able to help people at what is a difficult time." The Nelson Region Hospice is keen to train and develop new nurses in palliative car and as result has taken on recent nursing graduate Nadine Aston. Nadine is participating in ongoing practical, on the job training as part of the NETP (Nursing Entry to Practice) programme. She is involved in various aspects of Hospice patient care as she works towards becoming a registered nurse. Hospice would also like to extend a war m welcome to 14 year old Myer Van Gosliga who has joined up as a youth ambassador.The youngest in the youth ambassador ranks, Myer will actively participate in fundraising and lifting the profile for Hospice. The role entails making patients as comfortable as possible and to advise, educate and train Hospice staff and families in some basic physiotherapy. Ideally the hours of work would be within the Inpatient Unit on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between the hours of 10am to 12 noon. The position would initially be on a six month trial basis and if successful, funding would be sought to fill a permanent part-time position. Anyone who is interested in applying or who would like more information is invited to contact Hospice manager Frans Dellebeke on 027 703 9147. Nelson Region Hospice Trust only exists because of the community's generosity and support. There simply wouldn't be a Hospice without it. We have facilities and services to maintain and staff to pay; these are constant costs so our fundraising efforts never cease. We're grateful for every dollar we receive.
