Thirty people gathered on Tahunanui Beach to see off the popular instructor, nine years after she started yoga on the beach. Saturday was about letting go and getting ready for new beginnings, she said. She has taught yoga in New Zealand and overseas for 36 years. She moved to Nelson 21 years ago. In 2001, Maureen took over as organ- iser of the annual Festival of Possibilities, renaming it as Opportunities. In turn, that morphed into the Evolve Festival under new owners in 2012. She has two major surgeries coming up this year, after which she plans to return to Hamilton to be near her children and grandchildren. She said she had been fortunate to have her students over the years, and she has organised teachers to take her classes so they can continue.
